We are a women-only studio on Basant Avenue, and every artist here is female.
Even for a single session, we ask a few things first, because they change the makeup completely: what the event is, what time of day, indoors or outdoors, what you are wearing, and whether you will be photographed a lot. Daylight and evening lighting demand different intensities, and outdoor functions in Punjab heat need a different base than an air-conditioned banquet hall.
We also look at your skin. If it is dehydrated or flaking, no amount of foundation fixes it on the day, and we would rather tell you that a week ahead so there is time to do something. That honesty applies in the other direction too — if what you have asked for will not suit you, we will say so and suggest something we think will.
The single most useful thing you can send us before the appointment is a picture of what you are wearing and what jewellery is going with it. A look that is lovely on its own can fight with a heavy maroon or read as flat next to gold. Two minutes on WhatsApp beforehand improves the result more than anything you can do in the chair.
A session covers skin prep, base, eyes, lips and finish, with false lashes where the look calls for them. Hair styling and draping can be added — tell us when you book so we allow enough time. If several of you are getting ready for the same function, message us with numbers and the time you need to be ready and we will plan the running order backwards from there.

Punjab functions are long, warm and photographed. Skin prep is what carries a look through them — a properly hydrated, primed base outlasts an expensive foundation on unprepared skin every time. If your event is a few weeks away, a facial beforehand makes a genuine difference, and we will time it so any temporary redness has fully settled. We will also send you home knowing what to touch up and what to leave alone.

Mehak trained for seven years at one of the leading salons in Vancouver before opening Nakhra Studio. Our artists each hold a cosmetology degree with five to seven-plus years of experience and are trained in-house by her before working on a client. We use professional ranges, and every brush and tool is sterilised after every single use — which matters a great deal more on a face than most people stop to think about.
